FARM LIFE EXPERIENCE DAY
"Goat to Soap"

Come join me in a hands-on, educational and fun filled 8 hour day here at Carvanjo Farm. You will learn about goat milking, feeding, hoof trimming, shots, and stall cleaning in the morning and then after lunch, we will make goat milk soap from the milk we collected in the morning. Everyone who participates will take home 3 bars of Handcrafted Goat Milk Soap at the end of the day. Please wear clothes that can get dirty and bring a change of clothes with you. Wear closed toe shoes. If you come in flip flops or sandals you will not be allowed to participate. Participants must also sign waivers. Anyone under 18 yrs MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian the entire time. Limited to 4 people.
Cost $75 per person for entire day.
 Reservations are required.

Tentative Schedule:
6:30 AM  Meet in barn for beginning of goat milking
We will review basic milking and clean handling techniques. Participants will learn how to use Simple Pulse Home Milking       Machine and also be able to try some milking by hand.

8:30 AM  Clean up from milking and other regular farm chores.
Feeding and watering of farm animals.

9:00 AM  Basic Goat Care
This includes hoof care, shots, feeding practices and differences between does and bucks, Questions and Answers.

9:30 AM  Herd Goats to Grazing Area

10:00 AM Goat Pen Cleaning
This is a very important part of farm life. Regular cleaning of animal areas helps to prevent disease, flies and keeps their udders cleaner. You will be actively cleaning the goat pens so some heavy lifting might be necessary. Manure management is something most people don't consider when buying their first goat. Proper manure management will be discussed.

11:30 AM Lunch
We will break for an hour to eat and chat. Bring your own lunch.

12:30 PM  Basic Goat Milk Soap Making
You will learn how to make an easy, basic goat milk soap and learn about lye safety.  Soap takes 4 weeks to cure, so participants will get to take home 3 bars of "already made' goat milk soap for them to enjoy after a hard days work.

2:30 PM  End of Day.

WHAT TO BRING:
Wear clothes that can get dirty and bring a change of clean clothes and shoes with you.
